Stitches for Life
Stitches for Life Is an organization that anyone can join. You
don't have to sew to help out. If you would like to help pickup and
deliver supplies, help with the website, organize sewing supplies,
store materials at your house, or any of the other jobs Stitches
for Life has, we can always use your help. Our organization
provides handmade sewing items for babies, children, teens, adults
and the elderly. We make lap blankets, afghans, quilts, toys,
tableclothes, curtains, pillowcases, crocheted angels,
wheelchair/walker bags, wheelchair pads, gift bags, dish clothes,
pillows, and many other items. St. Augustine's Christmas
Appeal is an example of one of the places which benefit from our
donations. We provide 300 wheelchair bags and lap blankets for Fr.
Gettinger's Mission. We also donate items for various charitable
silent auctions and charities, such as Birthright, Our Lady's Inn,
Crisis Nursery, St. Patrick's Center, Sts. Joachim and Ann Care
Service, Wings of Hope, Knights of Columbus, and many more.
We have several new projects coming up. Stitches for Life
will be donating items for St. Vincent de Paul to sell after Masses
at St. Joseph. We will also be donating items to Sts. Joachim
and Ann Care Service to sell after Masses at Sts. Joachim and Ann
Church and for the Adopt-a-Family Program, which they run in
December.. Both of the sales will be in November just in time
for Christmas! All of these items will make great Christmas
gifts! If you would like to help with the sales, please
contact the individual organization. Stitches for Life does
not actually do any of the selling- the organization that receives
the items recruits the volunteers and runs the sale. Last
year, Sts. Joachim and Ann Care Service made $1,400.00 and Mary,
Queen of Angels made $1,600.00. Also, in December, we will be
providing over 300 items to St. Augustine's Christmas Appeal and
200 items to Sts. Joachim and Ann's Miracle on McClay Christmas
Appeal. We need lots of helping hands to make this
work!
Our group is dedicated to Blessed Teresa of Calcutta and St.
Therese.
Members of Stitches for Life may make as many or as few items as
they wish. Even if you only have time to make one pair of baby
booties a year, we still want you in our group. There are no
meetings to attend. Members may get material and patterns from one
of our members, who has been generous enough to donate a portion of
her basement to store our material. We are always in need of yarn,
batting, and material to make the items we donate. However, we
don't accept used clothing as we do not have the room to store
them. We encourage clothing donations be made to Goodwill and
Salvation Army. We also need members who can drive to various
charities. Come join us and see what we are all about!
Our Mission
Our mission is to provide warmth and comfort to the poor from
newborn to the elderly. By doing so, we offer to God the best of
our time and talents.
