Scenes of the Nativity
St. Francis of Assisi created the first Creche or Nativity Scene
as an aid to teaching his followers about the Christmas story.
Since the 13th century, the Creche has been a beatiful devotional
custom during the Christmas season. You have an opportunity to view
many variations, from miniature to very large, in many styles and
from many countries during Advent.
More effort needs to be made to keep Christ as the focus of the
Advent/Christmas season. Parishioners organize a display of
Nativities each year on a Saturday and Sunday in early Advent.
People bring their Nativities to display. This two-day event gives
us time to stop and recall the gift of God to us, during our
preparations for Christmas. Families can also have their photograph
taken as a 'Living Nativity' and crafts based on the theme can be
made during the event.
