Speech
Club St. Joseph School participates in the Bellarmine Speech League
through the Archdiocese of St. Louis. The St. Joseph Speech Club is open to all
5th through 8th grade students. There are three speech meets per calendar year
and a final meet in May. There are three categories of speeches to choose from:
Duets (two students perform either a humorous or serious speech together),
Serious Monologue and Humorous Monologue. Monologues are done as an individual.
The Club meets every Wednesday night after school from 3:15 - 4:15 p.m.
Students learn how to act, perform, memorize and most importantly, lose their
fear of public speaking.
St. Joseph School has always been represented
well in the Speech meets with ribbons for high achievement. In the 2003-2004
school year, students representing our school in the Final meet came home with
a blue ribbon and two gold ribbons. A gold ribbon represents a perfect score
from two different judges, the highest award given to students. We are very
proud of our Speech students!
Show Choir An organized group
of students, grades 3 through 5, who enjoy singing fun and action songs and
presenting them twice a year in concert at Christmas and again in the Spring.
Students should be able to sing in tune and participation is open to both boys
and girls. Practices are held on Mondays after school from 3:30 - 4:15 and
begin approximately ten (10) weeks prior to each concert. Solos, duets and
parts sung in unison or partner song harmony. Mrs. Sandra Stetson directs the
choir.
