Craft Fair Application
2008
Band
Schedule The 4th grade band students will have
classes on Monday, Tuesday, and Friday from 10:30 to 11:00. The students will
be divided into groups of like instruments. The groupings will change
throughout the school year. Please follow the band schedule. Once
again this year 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th grade band students will come to band
instead of attending their encore music period class for that quarter.
After- School Rehearsals I would
like to ask that students stay until the end of each after school rehearsal.
All after- school band rehearsals will begin at 3:15 and finish at 4:30. Plan
on picking up your child at 4:30. Please understand that I need for the
students to commit to this time. Younger siblings of the students involved in
band may NOT stay after school during band rehearsals. I apologize for any
inconvenience this may cause, but for the safety of our children the school
administration feels this is a needed policy. Your cooperation is appreciated.
I understand that a conflict cannot always be avoided, so if your child must
miss band please send a note the day of rehearsal. Here is the after school
rehearsal schedule:

Your child will be
expected to practice one hour per week. Please help your child find a regular
time for practice. It is important that each student in band spends time
learning his/her music. Our goal of a great musical experience can be achieved
if everyone involved works together. Listening to your child from time to time
will help this goal. Students in band will receive a grade. The grade
will be given during the quarter that the student has encore music. A final
grade will be given to all students at the end of the year. The grade is given
will be based on the following: 75% practice time for the whole year
(this grade is cumulative not just during encore quarters) 5% preparation
before class 5% on class participation 10% on performances
Awards Students may receive a trophy by
turning in 42 hours of practice time this year. They will need 36 hours to
receive an "A" and another 14 hours for the trophy. Students will need 32 hours
of practice time to receive a "B" and 28 hours of practice time to receive a
"C". Playing in the all school mass may be included as practice time. Attending
honor band may also be used as practice time. A special reward is
given at the end of the year for the student that has the most practice time
from each band. The Concert Band winner will receive $100.00. The Intermediate
Band winner will receive $50.00. The Beginning Band winner will receive $25.00.
Band Parent Meeting There will
be two band parent meetings during the school year. The band organization will
be meeting to get prepared for the many events of this year. ONE PARENT FROM
EACH BAND FAMILY MUST ATTEND EACH MEETING. We will start by asking you to sign
up to help with one event. The first fundraiser is the Fall Craft Fair. We will
conclude the meeting after we have organized various groups to be in charge of
fund raising, band concerts and planning the band trip. The second meeting will
be for parents with students in grades 5- 8. It will be scheduled before the
band trip. Band Fees The band
fee for the year is $300.00 per student. Please plan to pay the FULL TUITION
payment on Back To School Night. Please make all checks payable to St.
Joseph School Band. If you need to make other payment arrangements, please pay
a partial payment and write a note indicating what payment arrangements meet
your family needs. All band tuition must be paid in full by January 3, 2008. No
student will be allowed to participate in the spring concert or band trip,
unless arrangements have be made regarding any unpaid balance on the band
tuition. I am looking forward to
another exciting year of music and fun! Musically
yours, Mr.
Johnson |
