St. Joseph Celebrates Catholic Schools Week
Monday, February 13, 2012
During the week of January 29th the students participated in
various exciting activities celebrating Catholic Schools
Week. The week began with several students giving witness to
their faith by speaking to parishioners on the significance of
their Catholic education before the Sunday Masses. Thank you
notes created by the student body were distributed to all
parishoners after the Masses in appreciation of their support.
Throughout the week the children made spiritual bouquets for
local seminarians, wrote letters of appreciation to community
workers, challenged one another in board games, and celebrated
their faith in music and song with a local group of Catholic
musicians. They enjoyed several dress down days with Crazy
Sock and Shoe Day topping the list.
The highlight of the week was most definitely the fundraising
efforts by the children. They collected 1994 cans of soup for
a local charity in a "Soup-er" Bowl Challenge and raised $5000 for
the ongoing recovery efforts in Haiti. The money collected
will cover the cost of digging and installing a well that will
provide clean water to an entire village of Haitians. The
theme of "Faith, Academics, and Service" was certainly evident
throughout the week here at St. Joseph!
